Police staff are currently heading to the Tongariro National Park after reports of a hunting incident at approximately 1.30pm today.
Intial reports received by police indicate a male has shot himself in the leg while hunting.
The male appears to be in a remote location of the park and Search and Rescue staff, with assistance from a rescue helicopter, are currently looking to locate him.
No further information is available at this time.
