Man in custody after fleeing driver incident

Dunedin Police have arrested and charged a 29 year-old male after a fleeing driver incident in Dunedin this afternoon. He has been charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.

The incident began when an officer identified two males in the Cargill/Stuart St area who Police were wanted in relation to a stolen vehicle from Timaru. 

The two males got into the stolen vehicle and, after being followed for a short period of time by the officer, speed off. 

A short pursuit was initiated before the vehicle crashed on Portsmouth Drive. Both males left the scene on foot with the 29 year-old being arrested shortly after.

Police are still to locate the second male who is believed to have been the driver.

No other person or vehicle has hurt or damaged as a result of the incident.
