Missing trampers – Arthurs Pass

1 min read

Canterbury Police are currently assisting with a search and rescue operation in the Arthurs Pass National Park where two trampers are missing.

The 57-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman set off early yesterday morning intending to travel up the Deception River, over Goat Pass, and down the Mingha River to Klondyke Corner.

They were supposed to make radio contact once they reached Goat Pass hut at the half way point of the trip, but failed to do so and an associate raised the alarm.

One of the pair is a very experienced tramper while the other is not. They were not equipped for an overnight stay.

Due to poor weather a helicopter was not able to get up yesterday afternoon but conditions have improved today and one is now searching the area.
