Mohaka crash investigation continues

1 min read

Investigations are continuing into the crash near Wairoa that killed three Mongrel Mob members two weeks ago.

The three died when the car they were in left the road and crashed down a bank into the Mohaka  River near Raupunga.  One person survived the crash.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brent Greville said police had completed a forensic examination of another blue car thought to have been involved in the crash.  Samples from that car have been sent to ESR for forensic analysis.

“There is still a bit more work to be done regarding this car and the forensic tests may provide us with some helpful information.  We won’t be releasing the results of these tests as they are part of the overall investigation into the crash,” Mr Greville said.

He confirmed that police were not looking for any other vehicles in relation to the crash.  Police were still trying to ascertain who was in the car at the time of the crash.

An independent crash investigator will review the police crash investigation next week.  Mr Greville said this was not unusual in complex cases, that sometimes required an assessment from other specialised investigators.

“We want to make sure that we have dotted all the Is and crossed all the Ts and that there isn’t anything that may have been overlooked in our initial assessment,” he said.
