Multiple vehicle fatal crash blocks rural Waikato highway

1 min read

Diversions are in place and Police are advising to expect delays after a fatal collision involving multiple vehicles in the Eastern Waikato this afternoon.

Eastern Waikato Area Commander, Inspector Hywel Jones, said the collision on SH26 at Motumaoho near Morrinsville happened near the intersection with Harbottle Rd about 2.30pm.

"Emergency services are currently at the scene and the Waikato Serious Crash Unit is still on its way so it's too early to say what has caused the crash.

"Initial information to hand is that three cars were involved in the crash and three people from the different vehicles were trapped having suffered injuries varying from moderate to critical. One of those trapped has died at the scene and fire-fighters are working to free the others to allow medical treatment."

Mr Jones said the road is blocked with traffic management staff on hand and diversions are in place at the intersection of SH26 and Friedlander Rd and SH26 and Tauwhare Rd.
