Mystery pedestrian identified

1 min read

Police are pleased to advise that a pedestrian who was hit by a car in Great North Road early last Sunday morning has been identified.

A member of the public phoned the enquiry team and provided information that Detectives have worked through today.

The victim has been located and met with Police this afternoon. Though not life-threatening, she has suffered some injuries and has been offered medical assistance.

"Whilst we appreciate the public concern for this young woman, our priority now is the victim's privacy and welfare and because of this we will not be discussing the circumstances that led to the public appeal any further. What we can say however, is that we are very relieved to have identified and spoken with her" says Detective Sergeant Kevin Blackman.

Police believe a man who was possibly driving a van has stopped and offered to help the young woman as she lay on the side of the road. The enquiry team would like to speak to the good samaritan and ask that he make contact with Police.

The investigation is ongoing and the information gathered today will be used to further the enquiry. Police are still unable to make any comment about criminal charges against the driver at this point in time.

Police would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance.
