Canterbury Police can confirm there has been one fatality following a serious crash involving two cars and a truck on Gardeners Road shortly before 4.45pm this afternoon (22 April 2015). The driver and sole occupant of one of the cars has been confirmed as deceased at the scene.
The death has been referred to the Coroner who will determine the cause of death. No further details of the driver will be released until formal identification and the process to inform next of kin have been completed.
Canterbury Police investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
Gardiners Road will reopen between Sawyers Arms Road and Claridges Road within the next hour.
The driver and sole occupant of the truck was uninjured. The driver and sole occupant of a second car was taken to Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries.
