Police appeal for sighting of a vehicle near fatal crash in Pokeno

1 min read

Police are appealing for sightings of a vehicle seen near a fatal crash in Pokeno at the weekend.

A Serious Crash Unit investigation is underway following the death of a person whose car collided with a median strip and a truck on the Southern Motorway near Pokeno, around 4.35am on Sunday (October 23).

Constable Neil Holyoake, of Counties Manukau Serious Crash Unit, says witnesses reported seeing a dark-coloured hatch back moments before the crash drive alongside, or in convoy with, the car in which the person died.

The crash occurred in the Southbound lanes between Razorback Rd and Nikau Rd.

“We’re told the dark-coloured hatch back didn’t stop when the collision happened, and we’d like to hear from anyone who may have seen a car matching that description shortly before or after the crash. Ideally we would love to speak to the driver of this vehicle to assist us with our enquiries,” says Constable Holyoake.

People who may have information that can assist with the investigation can contact 09 261 1310 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
