Police apprehend man driving almost five times over legal limit

1 min read

Police have apprehended a 31-year-old man who was found to be driving almost five times over the legal breath alcohol limit.

A member of the public reported concerns about the man’s manner of driving in Winton this morning, which included near misses with oncoming traffic.

When stopped by Police and breath tested, he was found to have a reading of 1101 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.

He will appear in the Invercargill District Court for this offence.

Police would like this to serve as a reminder to the public that all drivers should expect to be stopped by us at any time.

We know that alcohol impairment is one of the four biggest contributors to death and serious injury on our roads, it’s just not worth the risk. We continue to work to ensure everyone is driving safely on our southern roads.

We want to see everybody taking their safety and the safety of other motorists seriously.

Police would also like to remind motorists to put down cell phones, wear a seatbelt, drive to the speed limit and focus on getting to their destination safely.

We’d also like to thank the member of the public who reported the man’s driving to Police.
