A Police Serious Crash Unit investigation is underway after a fleeing vehicle crashed on Carlton Avenue in Whanganui last night.
At around 10pm Police attempted to pull over the car as it was stolen, but the driver failed to stop.
A short time later the vehicle crashed into a power pole.
There were seven youths travelling in the car aged 11-16.
One person involved in the crash remains in hospital in ICU but is improving. The other passengers had minor and moderate injuries but have all now been discharged from hospital.
Police will refer the offenders to Youth Aid.
The incident will now be referred to the Independent Police Conduct Authority.
