“ Police are investigating a serious crash just South of Taupo on Napier Taupo Highway. Eastern District police, in Hawkes Bay are investigating an alleged serious incident from last night. It involves the theft of a motor vehicle. A vehicle of similar description was seen by Taupo Police this afternoon heading towards Taupo. A short pursuit commenced. Due to fog conditions the pursuit was abandoned. Police located the vehicle again and road spikes were deployed close to Taupo. As a result the vehicle has attempted to avoid the spikes and crashed. 3 persons were cut from the vehicle by Fire. 2 males have been taken to Waikato hospital in Hamilton and 1 female to Rotorua. There conditions are described as serious. Some next of kin have been advised by Police.”
