Truck Crash 1 km north of Hunterville S/H One

At 5am on Tuesday 22nd September 2015, Police were advised of a truck that had left State Highway One approximately 1 km north of Mangaweka and crashed into the Rangitikei River.

Several other truck drivers stopped as he truck was upside down in the fast flowing river. The other truckers broke a window in the cab of the truck and worked together to remove the driver.

The driver once assisted from the truck, though wet and cold was able to walk up to Emergency Services who had arrived. The driver was being seen by Ambulance staff and will be taken to Hospital for treatment.    

The area where the crash occurred had three lanes, (north & south bound lanes) however this has now been reduced to two lanes and Police are asking motorists to take care in the area.

The truck was carrying a load of Potato Chips at the time.

The Police CVIU will be investigating this crash.

The Rangitikei District Council were also informed and will work together with Police on the removal of the truck from the river.
