1 min read

Police can now release the name of the cyclist who died earlier this morning in a crash on State Highway 6.

He was 16-year-old River Caldwell, a local student living in Hokitika.

The Serious Crash Unit have been at the scene all day speaking to witnesses.

At this stage, we can confirm that Mr Caldwell was struck by a northbound vehicle while on his bike.

While a truck and a car were at the scene, each vehicle's involvement in the crash is still subject to investigation and Police are working to establish exactly what happened.

Both lanes on State Highway 6 are now open.

Police’s thoughts are with the family at this tragic time.
