At around 9.35pm last night, a male brandishing a sawn-off shotgun and wearing a full-head Halloween mask, similar to a witches mask with long grey hair, has entered the Caltex Service Station in Solway, Masterton.

The male has leveled the firearm at the teller and demanded cash. He has left the property without any items after being confronted.

Police are releasing these CCTV images from the store in the hope of identifying the male who is described as about 165 cms tall and, along with the mask, was wearing blue three-quarter length hunting type fleece with a v-neck, black trousers and black shoes with white soles.

Detective Sergeant Bysouth says, "This sort of threatening behaviour is thankfully rare in our area. We are following positive leads and hope that with the public's assistance we can resolve this matter quickly".

"I would encourage people to look at the images carefully and talk to their friends. If you recognise the man in the photo or have seen any of these items he is wearing to make contact".

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Wairarapa Police on (06) 370 0300. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
