1 min read

At 4.30pm on Monday 1 June 2015, Wellington Police had a report of a male person who had entered the Porirua inner harbour (Paremata side) and was swimming away from caregivers.

The Police were called and over the next hour this 22 year old man continued to swim and wade over sandbanks away from support.

Police deployed a Constable in a kayak, the Wellington Westpac Helicopter and the Mana coastguard in a rib to locate and bring this man to safety, along with Police staff on the banks around the harbour to ensure they were able to guarantee the safety of this man.

The man was eventually picked out of the water by the Coastguard and taken back to the Coastguard base and is currently being check by Ambulance staff.

He will be referred to Hospital Services.
