A serious two-vehicle crash was reported to Police about 7:40pm, near the intersection of State Highway 1 and Horahora Road at Piarere, north-west of Tirau.
There are understood to be serious injuries.
The road is closed and diversions are in place.
The Serious Crash Unit have been advised.
