111 Emergency Communicator

About the role

As the frontline of the frontline, Emergency Communicators are the first point of contact with Police. They answer 111 emergency calls from often distressed callers and help them to feel and be safe. 
 
Every call is different, and incoming calls can involve violence, attempted suicides, sexual assaults, sudden deaths, rescue situations and more – with people’s lives at stake and all within a call time of a few minutes. The nature of the role requires you to work shift work, the roster covers 24 hours a day, 365 days including public holidays and weekends.
 
This role asks a lot, but it also gives a lot. You will be working within a supportive team environment where people care and work together to get the best outcomes. The first six weeks of your employment will be fulltime training. This is where you will learn the aspects of handling emergency calls.

About you

Great Police Emergency Communicators come from many different backgrounds including customer service roles such as hospitality and retail. What they have in common is:
  • A passion and empathy for helping others in need
  • Resilience and professionalism in the face of adversity
  • Outstanding communication skills, including excellent written and spoken English 
  • An aptitude to think on your feet and use your questioning and listening skills to make sound decisions under pressure
  • The ability to follow highly-structured processes and procedures, while navigating several IT systems at once as well as typing quickly and accurately – all while talking to the caller
  • An understanding that our continuous shift work can conflict with family and social events.

We are not currently accepting applications for 111 Emergency Communicator roles. Positions for new intakes will be advertised later this year.

File Management Support Officer

You will be a vital link between operations staff, other relevant 3rd parties and the comprehensive Police file management system to ensure everyone has access to the information required to maintain a highly effective and service minded police service.

Your work has a direct impact on individuals and communities impacted by crime, you are the police digital paperwork master. You will:

  • Collect and collate correspondence from various internal and external sources.
  • Ensure critical and sensitive information relating to cases is stored, retrieved and communicated appropriately with a broad audience.

Almost everything police touch goes through a File Management support officer during its case journey. You will be fully trained to be a high performing File Management Support Officer.

File Management Support Officers have successfully transitioned into other positions within NZ Police, including Police officers and Police communicators.

Customer Services Advisor (digital)

About the role

Resolve queries and questions from the public using digital channels that align with the evolving ways people communicate today. As a skilled written communicator you’ll ascertain the need of the enquirer and then work with the local Police district, other emergency services, local government and other stakeholders to ensure the right people are aware and equipped to solve their problem.

This role has been created as the first phase in the development of this service. There will be an opportunity to test new systems and processes, analyse current approaches to service and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Vetting Officer

About the role

We are looking for motivated individuals who enjoy working independently and analysing information.

The Vetting Officer will contribute to Police strategies to reduce offending and victimization by processing vetting applications for external agencies and contributing to the integrity of police intelligence systems.

About you

Vetting Officers come from many different backgrounds. The key skills required are:

  • Accurate data entry skills with high level of attention to detail
  • Analytical - Able to identify risks and deal effectively with them and work through volume data
  • Working to deadlines in a timely manner
  • Proficient in Microsoft office suite

Special requirements

  • You will be required to work one week of late shifts per month
  • An understanding of the Privacy Act 1993, Children's Act 2014 and Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Act 2004 is an advantage

Flexible Customer Service Representative (casual or part time)

About the role

You will be utilising your customer service skills across a variety of service delivery functions. This a flexible and varied role, at times you may be answering 105 calls as the first line of communication for people calling the New Zealand Police with a non-emergency situation. Other times, you may be processing a range of low risk and high risk administrative tasks associated with Police paperwork.
