Police in Hastings have found a body on the banks of the Ngaruroro River near Hastings.

Detective Inspector Godfrey Watson said the body was located mid morning today by Police victim recovery dogs. Police have been searching the riverbanks for Graham Walsh who shot a police officer on the evening of Saturday 15 November.

Mr Watson said it was too early to provide a positive identification of the body.

"The body is in a state of decay and it may take a few days before we can positively identify who it is," said Mr Watson.

"However, a weapon was found near the body."

Mr Watson said Police would not be making any further comments until the body had been positively identified.
