Three young men are dead and two are in Auckland Hospital with moderate injuries after the car they were travelling in crashed into a tree on Hendon Ave, Mt Albert, late last night.
Police investigating the crash are trying to identify the deceased and locate next of kin. They hope to have this done by midday.
Speed is believed to have been a contributor to the triple fatality that happened on a straight stretch of road just before 11pm.
The Police Northern Communications Centre (NorthComms) received a call from a member of the public at about 5.30pm, reporting the car was being driven along Fanshawe St with someone in the boot. Patrols were notified but Police didn’t locate the vehicle at any time during the evening.
