Climbing Fatality on Upper Linda Glacier.

The climber is a 27-year-old Romanian, who has been studying at Canterbury University.

He was climbing with another Romanian climber, but they were climbing individually. (commonly referred to as "Soloing")

The survivor radioed a third member of their party who had stayed at Plateau Hut, who in turn raised the alarm via radio to DOC.

It appears that the men were well equipped, and the weather was good. Conditions in the area are described as Very hard, and icy.

Two New Zealand climbers in the area assisted the survivor at the scene.

A helicopter with 3 members of the Aoraki/Mt.Cook DOC Alpine Cliff Rescue Team flew to the scene, and recovered the deceased man, and also transported the others back to the Mt. Cook Village.

The climbers’ name will not be released until Next of kin have been advised.
