A climber has fallen to their death this morning on Mt Cook and their body has just been located.
At 8.30 am one of an international party of four climbers alerted rescue services via Mountain radio that one of their party had fallen on the east face of Mt Cook. Search and Rescue and a helicopter were called out.
At 10.45 am the search team located a body at 8,500 ft and a recovery operation has been commenced.
