A homicide inquiry is underway and a man has been arrested after a woman was attacked and died at an address in the North Shore suburb of Glenfield this morning.
Detective Senior Sergeant Gary Davey says, "The woman was known to the man and it appears she suffered stab wounds, but the cause of death is yet to be determined."
Police had been called to the address in Bruce Road and a man tried to leave the street in a van. A police patrol car forced the car off the road and the van and patrol car hit the side of a house on Chivalry Road.
The driver of the van began to take off on foot in the property and presented a knife at police but was disarmed and arrested. He was taken to North Shore Hospital for injuries not inflicted by Police that are described as not life threatening. A second man was taken to hospital with a minor injury and has been released. Police recovered a knife for forensic testing.
Detective Snr/Sgt Davey says "Police are already interviewing a number of witnesses and anyone not yet spoken to should contact the Takapuna Police.
The scene examination involves several addresses in Bruce Road and is expected to continue tomorrow.
