Police Release Description of Attacker

1 min read

Dunedin Police have released a description of the man who seriously assaulted an 18-year-old female jogger in Jubilee Park on Monday evening.

The assault occurred on a track between Maori Road and Cannongate around 11.30pm. The man is described as Caucasian, 25-30 years of age and around 170-175cm in height. He is medium to heavy build, with short, unevenly cut hair, and unshaven stubble. He is also described as having a prominent forehead. He was described as wearing jeans and a light rain jacket, dark in colour, with a pocket on the front and a distinctive zip on the front.

"We're interested in hearing from any one who saw a man fitting this description in this vicinity, particularly late on Monday night around 11pm until 12am," said Detective Constable Rebecca Hill. "Tracks in this area are also well used by walkers and mountain bike riders. Some one may have seen someone in the area who fits this attacker's description," she said. Of note is the fact that the man discontinued the attack and ran off towards Maori Road after a dog began barking. This may have been a dog from a nearby property or related to a member of the public walking their dog.

Police are also keen to hear from anyone who saw the female jogger. She was wearing two-tone Canterbury running shorts, black running tights and a black singlet. "This was a particularly serious attack and we are keen to catch the offender. Any help the public can give us is greatly appreciated," Detective Constable Hill said.

Any one with any information can contact Detective Hill via Dunedin Central Police Station on 471-4800. ENDS
