Police strongly committed to road safety

1 min read

There is no suggestion that police are doing away with radars. Appropriate numbers of speed detection devices including radar will continue to be available throughout the country.

Police are looking to get the most effective and efficient use out of speed detection devices as part of the on-going commitment to road safety, said Inspector Mark Stables, Road Policing Group, Police National Headquarters.

This focus includes the routine replacement of Stalker radar equipment, some of which is old and nearing the end of its working life. Police have 1000 Stalker units in patrol cars around the country. These are serviced and calibrated every 12 months.

"We need to ensure that we have the equipment where and when it is needed. That's why we are looking at our distribution and replacement programme," Inspector Stables said.

Police will continue to focus on reducing speed using a range of strategies and speed detection devices.
