1 min read

Armed Police searching several Hamilton properties located three people wanted in connection with the aggravated robbery of a Nawton home early this morning.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greene of the Hamilton CIB said a group of people are alleged to have burst into the Durham St home armed with knives about 4am.

"The robbery is believed to be both gang and drug related and as a result of our inquiries members of the Waikato Armed Offenders Squad were utilised to assist in the search of a Willoughby St address this morning," said Mr Greene.

"Over recent months a distinct link between the illegal drug and illegal firearms trades and gang involvement in both has been identified. As a results when considering the risks involved with these types of warrants it's often necessary to have the support of armed staff available."

As a result of the search a 21-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were arrested and charged with aggravated robbery while a search of two Fairfield properties resulted in the locating of a third party.

"That 26-year-old man has also been arrested and charged with aggravated robbery. All three offenders will appear in the Hamilton District Court tomorrow," said Mr Greene.
