Witnesses to assault sought

New Brighton Police are seeking any information about an alleged assault that occurred in Templar Street, Richmond in the early hours of Saturday 30 August.

The male victim, a 33 year old from out of town, was walking home alone to his brother's place from the central city at about 3.30am.

A vehicle approached and pulled up beside him. The male driver, the only occupant, then abused him before getting out and allegedly assaulting him with a baseball bat before leaving the scene in his car. The base ball bat may be red.

The offender is described as a male Caucasian, heavy set, med/fat build, aged between 20 - 25 years. He had very short hair or a shaved head. He was wearing only boxer shorts, no other clothing or foot wear. He was driving a white or light coloured vehicle possibly a Subaru station wagon. The first two letters of the registration number possibly start with RO.

The victim was taken to A&E where he was examined by a doctor. His injuries were not regarded as serious.
