City shootings confirmed and connected

1 min read

Since August 21, Auckland City District detectives have been investigating the reported shooting of an unidentified person shortly before midnight on Day St, behind the 24/7 bar.

While Police have no doubt that a shot was fired near the 24/7 Bar on August 21, they do not believe an earlier report that a person was injured or killed as a result. Consequently, on Wednesday September 7, a 36 year-old woman was charged with making a false statement and wasting Police time.

She is due to appear in Court again today where Police will apply to have the charges amended to the more serious one of willfully attempting to obstruct the course of justice.

Many Police hours have gone into that and a subsequent investigation into the alleged shooting of a man on Durham St in the city, on August 26. A man suffered a serious injury to his left foot when a firearm was discharged shortly after 5am.

A 22 year-old man was arrested and remanded in custody that day on a charge of possession of methamphetamine and breach of probation. His next Court appearance is scheduled for October 13 when he will also be formally charged with using a firearm with reckless disregard for others, in relation to the August 26 shooting.

Detectives believe the August 21 and 26 incidents are linked and would like to know the whereabouts of two men, 27 year-old Luther Adamson of Massey and 35 year-old Mase Raeli of Avondale, who might be able to assist the investigators.

Mr Raeli is believed to have access to a blue 4WD Pajero vehicle and is thought to be staying in motels in and around the city. Detective Sergeant Lloyd Schmid says he would like to speak to both men in relation to the Day St shooting.

Any information about Messers Adamson and Raeli - Headhunters associates - should go to Detective Sergeant Lloyd Schmid on 0274 746 663.
