Body Found In Port Chalmers

At about 1pm today, Thursday 9 December 2009, a member of the public notified Dunedin Police that they had discovered the body of a male off a track in the area known as Scott Memorial on Blueskin Road near Port Chalmers.

It is apparent that the deceased man died by violent means and consequently a homicide inquiry has commenced.

Police’s initial efforts involve identifying the deceased. He appears to be a male Caucasian, approximately 30 years of age, wearing a grey-hooded jacket, light blue polar fleece pants with grey shorts on the outside.

A grey vehicle was located in the car park immediately below the scene.

The area is well known as a lookout.

Police are also particularly interested in any sightings of other vehicles in and around the vicinity of this spot over the last 24 hours. People with any information should call Dunedin Central Police Station on 471 4800.

The inquiry is in its infancy and no further information is available at this time. A further media release will be made at approximately 11am tomorrow.
