Police on the North Shore have arrested a young couple wanted for questioning after an alleged six weeks crime spree on the North Shore, Whangärei, Lower Hutt, and in several other North Island centres.

An on-duty Police Officer spotted the male and female at about 2.30pm yesterday afternoon as they were driving their Mitsubishi vehicle on the northern motorway close to the Önewa Road turnoff.

A short pursuit ensued and they were bought to a halt by other supporting Police patrol cars. No vehicles driven by public were involved in the incident.

The couple; a girl aged 17 years and her boyfriend aged 19 years, are originally from the North Shore.

Police say that in early December they began travelling around the North Island where it is alleged they committed a range of various frauds and thefts.

Police say the couple will appear in the North Shore District Court today.
