Police emergency centre gets new bossInspector Allan Boreham has been appointed as the new manager for the Police Northern Communications Centre. He is currently the Eastern Waikato Area Commander and will take up his new position on 20 March.
Inspector Boreham has been with the New Zealand Police since 1985 and has worked in a range of general duties, criminal investigation and road policing roles in Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Wellington and the Waikato.
He says that a vital element of policing is to enhance the trust and confidence of the community in the police.
"The police communication centres provide that critical link between the public and frontline policing. They are ideally positioned to give reassurance to people who are dealing with an emergency while supporting good police tactics that detect, deter and suppress offenders," he said.
There are three Police Communication Centres covering New Zealand. The largest is the Northern Communications Centre which extends from Cape Reinga in the north to Turangi in the south. It covers a population of 2,000,000 and receives approximately 775,000 calls per year.
The Central Communications Centre covers from Taumarunui and East Cape in the north to Wellington in the south. It covers a population of 1,000,000 and receives approximately 350,000 calls per year.
The Southern Communications Centre covers the South Island and Stewart Island. It covers a population of 900,000 and receives approximately 350,000 calls per year.
