1 min read

A 17 year old male is in police custody, following his arrest this afternoon, on two charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The charges follow a week long investigation by Police into the stabbing of two girls in Centreway Road, Orewa, at about 12.30am on Saturday 4 March 2006.

Officer in Charge of the Orewa CIB, Detective Sergeant Hayden Mander, says the young man handed himself in, soon after Police searched a local address early this morning.

The man will appear in North Shore District Court tomorrow.

"CIB staff worked long hours to ensure that this crime was solved, and everyone in Orewa can take comfort in the fact that we have arrested this man, and that he is now in our custody," said Sergeant Mander.

"The public response throughout this investigation has been outstanding," he said.

"While the information that led to this offender's arrest did not come directly from the public, numerous suspect nominations were received by CIB staff. Police are most grateful to the public and the media for the valuable assistance provided to us," Sergeant Mander said.
