Police speak to motorists about the death of Scott Guy

2 min read

Police investigating the death of dairy farmer Scott Guy in Feilding set up a series of road checks this morning, exactly one week since the fatal shooting.

Road checks were put in place at five intersections that are key access points to the Aorangi Road address where Scott Guy was killed on the morning of Thursday, 8 July.

They were at the intersections of:
• Matai Street and Campbell Road
• Taonui Road and Campbell Road
• Reid Line East and Aorgani Road
• Reid Line East and Taonui Road
• Aorangi Road and Durie Road

Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger said: "The purpose of the road checks was twofold. Firstly we wanted to identify the amount of traffic that normally travels those routes in the morning. The other purpose was to refresh the memories of motorists, asking them if they noticed anything unusual on the day that Scott was killed."

The road checks ran between 4.30am and 8am and approximately 230 motorists were spoken to. About 80 of those spoken to, who may have been in the area on 8 July, assisted further by completing questionnaires. Additional to that 150 motorists were handed a leaflet appealing for information. Police are now looking through those questionnaires and will follow up on any relevant information.

Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger has expressed her disappointment at the limited public response to Scott's death. She said: "I'm not sure what the reason is behind the lack of response. It may be that someone knows something is too scared. That's the reason we have Crimestoppers for those people who feel they can only tell us what they know anonymously. I implore anyone with information, no matter how irrelevant they think it might be to call."

Police have also today commenced a roadside search phase to look for the shotgun.

The investigation is continuing into the background of Scott to look for any possible links that may have precipitated this event.
"We still have yet to establish any reason for Scott being killed," said DI Schwalger. "I haven't heard a bad word said about Scott or his family."

The family are currently preparing to farewell Scott and celebrate his life.
