1 min read

Emergency services called to a rural property outside Hamilton have 'pulled the pin' after it was established hand grenades discovered by furniture movers were not live.

Armed Police were originally called to the property yesterday after a standoff between new property owners and members of an adult gang, the previous tenant was well known to Police.

Furniture movers brought in to remove the former occupant's possessions raised new concerns when they discovered two hand grenades in a set of drawers in a garage on the property about 12.30pm today.

The devices were placed on the ground and the area evacuated while an Auckland based Defence Force bomb disposal team were called in to deal with the situation.

Explosive Ordinance Disposal officers established the devices were inert and the area was cleared for access by about 2.40pm.
