Two confirmed dead in plane crash

1 min read

It has been confirmed that two people died in a light air crash in Feilding this afternoon (Monday, 26 July).

Around 3.30pm two Cessna 152 aircraft from Feilding Aerodrome (known locally as Taonui Airfield) were involved in a mid-air incident.

One of the aircraft managed to land safely at the aerodrome. The pilot and sole occupant of that plane, a man in his 20s, was not injured. The second aircraft crashed into a farmer's paddock on Durie Road. The occupants of that plane, believed to be two women, died.

The scene is being guarded overnight and the Transport Accident Investigation Commission will be leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.

The names of those killed in the crash will not be released until all next of kin have been advised.
