Stabbing victim transferred to spinal unit

1 min read

A 22-year-old Wellington stabbing victim was late this morning transferred to Christchurch's Burwood Hospital spinal unit.

Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Cotter, Wellington CIB, said the victim was stabbed in the back during a verbal altercation on the forecourt of BP Roadmaster in central Wellington about 1.40am yesterday.

"The injury is not life threatening but there is concern about damage to the victim's spinal cord which is why he has now been transferred to the specialist unit," Detective Senior Sergeant Cotter said.

Late yesterday police found in the Hutt Valley a white four-door Mazda Familia sedan whose occupants are believed to be involved in the stabbing.

"We've yet to speak with the occupants but are following a strong line of inquiry," he said.

Police are still interested in talking with people who witnessed the stabbing as the forecourt area was relatively busy at the time of the assault.
