Hamilton Police investigating the overnight stabbing of three people in the south of the City have arrested three people following the search of a number of properties today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton of the Hamilton CIB said three males were arrested and are all currently being interviewed by detectives in connection with last night's incident which happened near the Bader St shops about 6.15pm.

"We've received a wealth of information from the public throughout the day and that, combined with other information accumulated during our enquiries have enabled us to progress matters to the point of being able to make theses arrests.

"Given the violent nature of the initial incident members of the Waikato Armed Offenders Squad were used to support the searches that were carried out in the Melville area throughout the day."

Mr Thornton said the arrests will hopefully go some way in assuring local residents that the Police take issues of violence in their community seriously and send a clear message to those involved in such behaviour that it will not be tolerated.
