1 min read

A large scale Police operation targeting alcohol and drug impaired drivers in Waitakere City over the Easter weekend has resulted in a number of arrests.

The operation, conducted with the assistance of Waitematä District traffic units and the specialised Traffic Alcohol Group, began at 5pm on Friday 22nd April and ended at 2am on Sunday 24th April.

In all, 8643 vehicles were stopped at 5 check points strategically placed around the city.

A total of 30 drivers were detected driving with excess breath alcohol, 9 of whom elected to have blood tests taken, which will determine whether or not they will face court proceedings.

A total of 10 drivers had their licenses suspended due to the high alcohol levels detected and another 11 people were arrested for a range of offences including Breach of Bail, Driving whilst forbidden, Fines warrants and Driving whilst suspended.

Acting Senior Sergeant Dave Campbell says there will be further operations throughout the year targeting alcohol and drug impaired drivers.
