An armed scene guard is in place at a Hamilton address following an incident in the suburb of Livingston this morning in which shots were fired.

Police were called to the Ellicott Rd address about 5am after reports a man who had gone to the property had fired shots from a handgun from outside the house.

The incident was initially reported as a serious domestic incident but that is yet to be confirmed.

Members of the Waikato Armed Offenders Squad supported City staff who had cordoned off the area and voice appeals were made to the occupants of the home.

Distraction devices were used to enable the AOS to gain entry into the building to clear the house.

No shots were fired after the arrival of Police who are currently speaking to the occupants.

Note to media, Andrew McAlley is not at work this week, media inquiries in relation to this incident should be directed to the Hamilton Shift Commander after 9am
