Hamilton Police hold fears for the safety of the occupants of an address where shots were fired during an early morning incident in the west of the City.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton of the Hamilton CIB said investigators have determined two shots were fired at the Ellicott Rd property around 5am.

"Evidence recovered at the scene is consistent with the discharging of a firearm, there was no-one at the address when it was cleared by the Waikato Armed Offenders Squad and we have been unable to locate the occupants.

"Given the severity of what happened we hold concerns for the safety of the occupants and will continue to do so until we have been able to speak to them. I would encourage those people or friends and relatives who know where they are to contact Police."

Mr Thornton said Police had received good cooperation from the local community around where the incident took place and spoken to a number of people however they were still in the position of working to establish exactly what took place.

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of the occupants of the house or on the identity of those involved in the incident is asked to contact Mr Thornton at the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200.

Alternatively information can be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
