Orewa Police are investigating a stabbing on the beach foreshore early this morning in which a young Pacific Island man received serious facial injuries.

Police say that at 1.40am this morning Saturday 3 February 2007, the 26 year old victim arrived at the Orewa Police Station. The victim was bleeding profusely from numerous stab wounds to his face and other sectors of his body. The victim's wounds were consistent with that caused by a knife or sharp instrument.

Police say a witness has given a good description of two persons who were involved in an altercation with the victim, prior to the stabbing.

The witness has told police that the victim was seen talking to the two persons in a sector of the recreation area on Hibiscus Coast Highway opposite Riverside Road. The altercation between the two parties took place less than 50 metres from the Orewa Police Station.

The witness assisted the victim and escorted him to the nearby Station where he received immediate medical treatment from the staff. He was then taken immediately by ambulance to Auckland Hospital. Later the victim was transferred to Green Lane Hospital.

Police are seeking the assistance of the public to locate the following persons:
