A 19 year old man has died after the car he was a sole passenger in crashed into a tree on the side of a road in Maraetai overnight. He was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the car was a male aged 19-20 years. He was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
The crash occurred at 12:55am on Maraetai Drive and the car was a white Toyota. No other vehicles appear to have been involved.
The Serious Crash Investigation Unit attended the scene of the crash and their enquiries are continuing.
