The name of a man who died in Waikato Hospital on Friday night, following a skiing accident on the Whakapapa Ski Field earlier that day has been released.

He was Abraham KLAARENBEEK, a 38-year-old Dutch national from Paeroa.

Mr KLAARENBEEK died at the hospital about 6.25pm after being transferred there following an incident on the ski slope about 1pm where it appears he has skied over the brow of a hill near Knoll Ridge, gone under a T-bar and collided with a pole and ladder supporting an operator's hut.

The incident is now under investigation by Department of Labour's Occupational Safety and Health investigators and the Coroner will determine the cause of Mr KLAARENBEEK'S death.
