Hamilton Police investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in a City lake on Friday returned to the area to carry out further searches this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton of the Hamilton CIB said a post-mortem examination carried out on the 43-year-old woman's body was carried out in Hamilton on Friday and indicated the death was not suspicious.

"However, as is often the case in such circumstances, there were a number questions still unanswered following this and for the integrity of the case and also for the family's peace of mind the case remains open.

"To that end members of the Waikato Search and Rescue Squad returned to Lake Rotoroa at first light this morning to conduct another search for the area and we will assess where we go from here once that search has been completed."

Mr Thornton said at the time of the body's discovery the lake walkway was closed off, denying public access to a popular part of the City.

"We would like to thank the members of the public who were inconvenienced by this as we carried out our forensic examination of the scene and we believe any further activity will cause a minimum of disruption."
