1 min read

An investigation is underway after a vehicle fleeing Police crashed in Palmerston North early this morning.

The incident began at approximately 2.15am on Park Road when a Honda Accord seen driving erratically, failed to stop for Police. A pursuit was initiated and approximately 30 seconds later the Honda failed to negotiate a sharp left-hand bend and crashed into a large concrete sign on Botanical Road, outside Awatapu College.

The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle had to be cut free by Fire Service. The Palmerston North man was taken to Palmerston North Hospital where he is currently in a critical condition. A 30-year-old Palmerston North man and a 19-year-old man from Shannon, who were passengers in the Honda, appeared unhurt but were taken to hospital to be checked over and later released.

No-one has been arrested in relation to the incident. An investigation into the crash is now underway.
