Foxton racecourse has been struck by another arson attack, the fourth fire in ten days.
A security guard spotted the fire at the caretaker's shed around 4.45am yesterday morning (Sunday, 27 November). He raised the alarm and with the assistance of the caretaker used fire extinguishers to put out the flames. As the fire was caught early it was out by the time Fire Services attended and caused only damage to the wooden door of the shed.
Acting Detective Sergeant Marianne Whitfield said: "It is extremely concerning for both the racecourse and the Police that yet another fire has been set. It seems that someone has a serious issue with the club, and it is has been by pure luck that no one has been seriously injured or killed.
"If anyone has even the slightest incline who might be responsible, or why the racecourse is being targeted, it is vital they contact Police. It doesn't matter how irrelevant you may consider the information, leave that for us to work through."
During yesterday's fire a couple of young women assisted in pushing vehicles from under a covered area of the shed. Police are keen to identify those witnesses and ask that they make contact as soon as possible.
