1 min read

Police currently anticipate being 22 over strength at year end. At the beginning of the year Police estimated there would be a need for approximately 732 recruits to meet the growth targets and cover attrition said National Manager Recruitment, Inspector Dawn Bell.

"This year we have seen a significant drop in the attrition rate from around 4.5% to 3.9%, thereby reducing the number of recruits required.

39 former UK police officers, not accounted for in the latest score card as they have not commenced training at the Royal NZ Police College, began their induction in Police Districts this week. They commence at the College next week and will be posted to their allocated Districts in June."

In the last 12 months numbers of Sworn staff have grown by 417. During the 2006/07 year Police targeted growth of 337 Sworn, to date the growth has been 231. Police anticipate growing by a further 128 Sworn Staff before 30 June 07.
