Police Commissioner Peter Marshall is today pleased to confirm the promotion and appointment of Superintendent Michael Clement as the new District Commander for the Auckland City District.
Superintendent Clement, currently an Inspector and the Area Commander for Western Bay of Plenty based in Tauranga, will take up his new command on 31 January 2012. He succeeds Superintendent George Fraser who retired on 31 December 2011 after an illustrious 35 year career with New Zealand Police.
“Mike is a highly capable and innovative senior officer who has worked in a diverse range of operational, investigative and strategic roles. I’m pleased to confirm his promotion and appointment and wish him well for the future.”
Superintendent Clement joined New Zealand Police in 1978 and served the first 26 years of his career in Christchurch. With a strong operational and investigative background including work in the organised crime area and leadership roles in homicides he was promoted in 2005 to Detective Inspector and transferred to Police National Headquarters in Wellington where he helped set up the Crime Monitoring Centre.
Since 2007 he has been the Area Commander for Western Bay of Plenty and has been an influential and innovative leader known for his prevention and people focused approach to policing.
Superintendent Clement said it has been an “honour and a privilege” working in the Western Bay of Plenty and he’s looking forward to taking up his new command at Auckland City.
The Western Bay of Plenty Area Commander vacancy will be advertised this week and relieving arrangements will be in place until a permanent appointment is made.
