Positive lines of enquiry for Rotorua assault investigation

1 min read

Rotorua Police are investigating an assault on a pregnant woman on Wednesday, 11 January.

The Police have good photos of the female offender and are following positive lines of enquiry, but are still keen to hear from members of the public who witnessed the incident which happened at approximately 10.30am.

The 24-year-old victim received minor facial injuries and was kept in hospital for the day for observation.

Police have stepped up beat patrols in the CBD over the school holiday period which will continue to the end of the school holidays.

Also assisting the Police are the Rotorua District Council city guardians who are also out in force, as well as the Maori Wardens who all add to the safety of the Rotorua CBD.

As a result of the stepped up patrols, the reported incidents of crime have been very low over the holiday period, with a lot of positive comments received from the public about the presence of the Police and partners in the CBD.

It is therefore disappointing that this incident, as well as the high profile shoplifting incident that was posted on YouTube, have received a lot of attention in what as otherwise been a very low crime period in the Rotorua CBD.

These two incidents are not common in the city and certainly don't reflect any crime trend in Rotorua.
