Tourist charged after Buller Gorge crash

A 24-year old Canadian tourist will appear in the Nelson District Court next week charged with careless use of a motor vehicle following a crash in the Buller Gorge this afternoon.

The man was exiting a layby near the gorge swing bridge about 12.30pm when his campervan was involved in a collision with a motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist was airlifted to Nelson Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The Canadian tourist and his passenger were not injured in the accident.

He will appear in the Nelson District Court on Monday 20 February.
