Girl dies after motorbike crash

At about 2:30pm on the 29th of April Police were advised of a motor bike accident in the rural township of Tapawera South of Nelson.

Nelson Police, Volunteer Fire and Ambulance crews from Tapawera, responded to the scene along with the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter.

The accident was the result of a small 2 wheel motorbike hitting a farm fence on private property in the township.

As a result a 5 year old girl who was riding the bike has sustained serious injuries and passed away at the scene. Victim support are supporting the family and people who witnessed this tragedy.

The girl had been riding the motorbike for the afternoon with family members on there rural property.

Police have spoken to witnesses and are investigating on behalf of the coroner.

The name will not be released until tomorrow to give next of kin time to be notified.
